Illusions…

This wonderful photo – a perfect moment caught in time. Not a cloud in the sky. The air shimmers in the mid-day heat. Not the slightest breath of wind moves the sea which seems to melt into the horizon…

Two swimmers sitting at the beach enjoying the view. George Hoyningen – Heune took the photo in the year 1930,  not on the beach but on the roof of the photo studio of French Vogue in the Champs-Elysées. The models are actually sitting on wooden chests and the horizon is merely the surrounding wall of the roof-top balcony.

Nothing is as it seems!  And yet, this photo depicts summer like no other…
